Compression stockings
Functional, fashionable therapy for your legs
Compression stockings are a key part of most of our vein treatment protocols and actually improve results by up to 25%. They act by providing compression that is highest in the ankle and decreases in a predictable way up the leg. Compression is highest at the ankle because the veins here see the highest pressures. When used for symptom control stockings keep the vein wall from dilating, allowing them to remain open and actually functioning more efficiently. They are excellent at managing symptoms such as aching, burning, heaviness and fatigue. Properly fitted stockings also slow the progression of and prevent recurrence of varicose veins after treatment and slow the progression of chronic venous stasis disease.
Compression stockings come in several strengths depending on the degree of compression. Medical grade stockings are custom fitted by our staff and ordered in for you. Most private health plans will cover your stockings up to four pairs per year. Properly worn each pair will only last 6 months due to loss of elastic stretch. If they are getting easy to put on they are likely no longer doing what you paid for.
If you are concerned about how they look, don't. Modern stockings by Sigvaris are very attractive and come in many fashionable colors.
